Široki TT Kabeli opened their return to the AdmiralBet ABA League with a victory, defeating Borac Mozzart 87:81 on the road in Čačak.
Široki did most of the damage in the first half, especially in the second quarter, when they scored 31 points and built a 17-point halftime lead. Borac came close to erasing that advantage after the break, but Široki managed to stay in front in the closing minutes.
Široki Build a 17-Point Halftime Lead
Široki led 17:13 after the opening quarter, before producing their best stretch of the game in the second period.
The offense clicked, the lead started to grow and Borac struggled to respond. Široki won the second quarter 31:18 and went into halftime with a 48:31 advantage.
At that point, the game was firmly in the visitors' hands.
Borac, however, came out much more aggressively after the break. The hosts won the third quarter 28:18 and cut the deficit to 66:59 heading into the final ten minutes.
Borac Cut the Gap to One
The home side kept up the pressure in the fourth quarter. Široki no longer had a comfortable cushion, and Borac eventually closed the gap to 75:76.
From there, it was effectively a one-possession game.
Tayler Persons scored an important basket to make it 80:77, before Široki moved ahead 84:79. Borac made one more push and reduced the deficit to 84:81, but the visitors stayed in front in the final possessions and closed out the game for an 87:81 win.
Lewis Leads the Scoring, Persons Delivers Late
Chavaughn Lewis led Široki with 19 points, three assists and two steals. He finished the game with a team-high valuation of 24.
Tayler Persons scored 18 points, adding six rebounds and four assists. His contribution was particularly important in the closing minutes, when Borac had cut the lead to a single point.
Josip Bilinovac added 13 points, while Jure Zubac finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
Široki were highly efficient inside the three-point line, converting 69.7% of their two-point attempts. They also shot 92% from the free-throw line.
The visitors won the rebounding battle 31:25, while Borac made nine of 33 attempts from three-point range.
With the win in Čačak, Široki made a successful return to regional competition.
