Following the preseason period, Široki TT Kabeli face their first competitive test of the new season. The team from Pecara will visit Borac Mozzart in Čačak in Round 2 of Group A of the AdmiralBet ABA League. The game is scheduled for Friday, October 2, at 6:30 PM at Borac Sports Hall.
The game in Čačak will be the opening game of the new ABA League season for both teams. Borac Mozzart secured their place in the regional competition through the qualifiers, while Široki TT Kabeli returned to the top tier of regional basketball after winning the ABA League 2 title last season.
Both teams had similar results during preseason. Borac recorded three wins and three defeats, with one game ending in a draw, while Široki finished their preseason campaign with three wins and three defeats.
All of this sets the stage for an interesting first regional test of the season for both teams.
Bagarić: We Have to Be at Our Best
Široki TT Kabeli head coach Marijan Bagarić is aware of the challenge of playing on the road in a traditional basketball environment, particularly after Borac's strong performances during preseason.
“We are happy that the ABA League is finally starting, especially because we are playing the opening round in such a traditional basketball environment. Borac looked excellent during the preseason. We will have to produce our best performance so far if we want to win. I want us to have an honest approach and give our maximum from the first to the final second, and then may the better team win,” Bagarić said.
Zubac: We Will Fight for Every Ball
Jure Zubac also expects a demanding game against a team known for its physical and hard-fighting style of basketball.
“Right at the start of the ABA League, we face a difficult road game against Borac in Čačak. Borac is a team known for its physical and hard-fighting basketball. We are ready for the challenge, we believe in our work and everything we have done throughout preseason. We will fight for every ball and try to start the season in the best possible way.”
Novak and Persons in Focus
The ABA League highlights the match-up between Jovan Novak and Tayler Persons as one of the key individual battles of the game. Both are newcomers to their respective teams and both have returned to the regional competition after playing in Poland.
Both players are expected to play important roles in leading their teams, making their head-to-head battle one of the most interesting aspects of the game in Čačak.
Borac Mozzart and Široki TT Kabeli have never faced each other in the ABA League, meaning Friday's game will be their first head-to-head meeting in the competition.
